How can I avoid my account from being compromised?
There are simple things to do (and to not do) to prevent your account from being compromised.
Do's! |
Don'ts! |
| Use regularly updated anti-virus software and a firewall to prevent scanning or theft of your personal data |
Don’t share your account with anyone |
| Change your password regularly |
Never give your password to a Blizzard employee (they will never ask for it) |
| Keep your account information safe |
Don’t trade your account for another – the other person is probably trying to steal your account |
| Contact our support teams as soon as you think that your account may have been compromised |
Don’t use power leveling / honor farming services |
| Use different passwords for your account and your guild forum |
Don't buy an account from an online auction service or another player |
| Use the Blizzard launcher as it scans your computer for some known trojans and other viruses which may steal your password |
Don't Use UI modifications which use an .exe file |
| Keep your account information (such as email address) updated so that we can contact you if there is a problem with your account |
Don't enter your account name and password on websites other than official blizzard websites even if they offer free gold or playtime |

Level 51 mage missing after a trading!
"I have traded my Account because I do not want to play my Mage anymore. I traded for a Shaman. After I had given my details away I tried my “new” Account but I cannot login. There is no Account registered with this name and my old account’s password has changed. I also have forgotten my secret question and answer, so I cannot reset my password. Please help me."

nsure the security of your computer before taking any further steps. For information on computer security please read our FAQ here.
Please make sure that you are using the most current routines for your anti-virus software. Once this has been updated, you should run a full scan of your computer in order to identify and remove any harmful components. Once this has been done, go to the Account Management pages and change your password or request a new password. Then login into the game and report the matter to a Game Master. Detail when you think the account was hacked and if any items or characters are missing.
The Game Masters will investigate the incident you have reported and then may take steps to secure the account by suspending it to protect it from further damage. In cases where item or character reimbursement is necessary, it is highly likely that the account will be suspended before this can take place. When your account is suspended, the Game Master will send an email to the registered email address detailing what steps need to be taken to unlock the account.
If you cannot obtain a new password and access your account, please contact Account Security Support using the webform. You will need to answer some questions about your account so that we can assist you with a new password. If you cannot provide all of these details then we will use alternate means of verifying your identity. This may include official ID and confirmation of payment details. If any other steps are necessary to safeguard or retrieve your account, we will contact you by email.
Remember that this process may take several days to be completed!
